I mean c'mon! These bikes R&D cost some money but after they build the first and mass produce them, is it really fair to charge over $1000 for a frame? $2000? $3000? When is there going to be some REALITY to all of this? Gas prices are at an all time high, houses are astronomical, and having enough money to take your girl out to dinner is hard enough, but charging $2000 or $3000 for a freaking bike frame? Or even the whole bike? You gotta be kidding me!? This is like the Unions sucking the American car industry into the toilet! $29 to $39/hr cost to build a car to the Japanese $10/hr costs! And when all these bike companies go belly up cus they can't stay afloat and no one buys their bikes anymore, are we going to care if another Karpeil goes under? I'm pricing an Intense right now and I can't see paying $4000 for a bike! Nor $3000 to TREK! I can barely pay my bills now! And I gotta be pushed to pay half the price of a Honda CR 250 motorcycle for a frame that if it cracks, will only be warranted for a few years? I read Intense Cycles bike frame warranty... two years? HUH? Trek says lifetime but if you buy a bike that is top of the line six years ago, dang if you wont get what they feel is what your bike is comparable to today... it won't be the top of the line model now. It just ceases to amaze me how much bike companies, and I'm not talking Trek and Intense alone, they're just some of the better name brands out there, I mean all of them. Foes, six grand? HUH? Intense, SIX GRAND for an M3? HUH? TREK'S Session 10, more like Session will cost you $300 each time you ride cus it costs over THREE GRAND!? Specialized, Norco, c'mon people! When are we all going to say to the bike companies, "I'm not paying it anymore!" and let the companies fold or sweat them out! I'm not looking for a BlTCHIN festival here from everyone that wants to chime in on the counter part but not everyone has that kind of money and it is becoming unrealistic! Imagine five years from now! SIX GRAND FOR A TREK? TEN FOR AN INTENSE!? You see where it's going people? What's next, JAPANESE BIKES for a grand that put our American bike companies under, bankrupt, workers out of a job? It's time bike companies get realistic over this stuff. It's not rocket science. A good engineer could make a design to really work out nice and get you some serious travel on the rear tire without sacrificing food out of your newborn's mouth so you can go enjoy something in the great outdoors with nature. Bike companies have GOT to get a grip and buyers have go to voice their opinion in disgust over the constant soaring costs to buy a nice bike. Keep it under two grand at least! And if you are going to say lifetime warranty on a frame, then that bikes means $1500 eight years ago, don't mean $1500 for todays bike. INFLATE the former frame to what it would be today and give what the warranty implies! A BRAND NEW STATE OF THE ART TOP OF THE LINE FRAME for a brand new state of the art frame from yesteryear. And $2000 to $3000 for a bike? Enough! People's salaries are not keeping up with the inflation. And every company want's to make more for the same rig only new paint and some alterations. Yes research and development cost money, yes it costs for the first prototype, but that's where good old AMERICAN engineering should come in. Let's make a bike that will be better than everyone else so everyone will want it. Make the money on volume, not a "Let's make a killing on a few that can afford it mentality!" Cus if it comes down to my wallet, it has no allegiance to brand name. And if companies want repeat buyers, their not going to do it today based on customer branding loyalty. I'm ready to go Japanese on my next car after 30 years of american cars and I'm not feeling bad about the american auto workers it's going to eventually hurt in the long run. Loyalty and being raped at the register are no longer hand in hand in my opinion. Bike companies MUST get a grip on the economy and stop going along with the trend to raise rates to astronomical limits and expect people to pay it. I don't know about you, but I'm hurting in this economy and I need help anywhere I can get it. I'm sure there are thousands of bikers out there that agree with me and don't feel that $2000 for a bike is justified! Bring the prices down! NOW! No wonder no one want's to buy American anymore.
